Hello everyone!

I’m sure that most if not all of you have read that our beloved Gothic has decided to retire from RPing here at AeRo. As a part of that decision, Gothy and I talked about what to do with the site and where it should go from here. I have been with AeRo almost since the very beginning, and have been a staff member (in varying forms) for the past several years. While I have never completely managed a site of this caliber as the main admin, I decided that I would step up and do my best to fill Gothy’s shoes.

As she said in her resignation announcement, she will remain as a tech admin, and will continue with advertising for the site. The everyday administrative work will fall on my shoulders, and on Anthony’s—as he has recently been recruited as a Super Moderator to help me out in keeping the site running. I have a few changes planned for the site, all aimed at hopefully making things better and more engaging for the community.

Foremost among those changes is the way the plot of AeRo develops. On a site like this—where some players want characters involved in world-wide events, and some players could care less—it’s always difficult to manage the progression of an overall plot. All too often the “plot” becomes the actions and stories of a handful of characters. In the past, more often than not, the plot of AeRo has been discussed and decided behind closed doors, so to speak, in the staff area. I want to put an end to that.

I want everyone on the site to have a say in where the story goes. I personally encourage friendly competition between characters (IC only of course); I encourage ambitious characters who have a realistic goal of taking over the empire, or just power in general, whatever the form. I encourage characters who get themselves into positions that could lead to their ultimate victory, or their inevitable death. AeRo has always had a great community, and I think we can use that strength to communally create and guide the future of AeRo’s story.

In addition to that, there will be some organizational changes to the boards in the OOC area (none of the IC boards for Rome/the world will change); and some cleaning of old threads. For a full list of planned changes that will come soon, read the spoiler below.

(1) Reorganizing the boards

I’m going to get rid of a few sub-boards, and condense others into the same general area just so there’s not too much clutter. The only boards that will be changing are the OOC areas—the IC boards for Rome won’t be touched.

(2) Cleaning up inactive accounts & their profiles

Take the list of people that replied to the AC (minus the members who’ve left recently), and cross-check it with the accepted characters area. Any characters not on the list (or those who’ve left) should be sorted into the “archived characters” sub-board.
I’ll go into the admin cp and delete the accounts for the same characters.

(3) Updating various threads

TheFace ClaimandWho’s Wholists will need to be updated after we’ve gone through and made a list of the characters that are no longer with us. We can keep the claims for those characters of Gothy’s that she’s putting up for adoption.

(4) Cleaning the board

I’m going to do away with the various registries (marriages, births, deaths, etc.); the players can keep track of those things themselves. Also, any IC threads dating before March should be moved into the archives toIC Archives—>58 AD-Current Archives—>60 AD.

(5) Update the Information Directory

I plan on making this a little easier to navigate. Any information that is essentialfor AeRo—the history, info. that is needed for AeRo’s story, etc. will remain. Anything that’s just basic information on Rome I’m going to remove from the site and link to other places with the same information.

To speak more of the plot: Of course, with Gothy leaving (and the departure of a few other players recently as well) there are quite a few major characters without players. In order to bring the site to a point where it is something of an open book, Anthony and I have come up with a series of events that will shake the IC world of AeRo. There will be A LOT happening over a somewhat short period of time. Some of the events will be threaded, but many of them will simply be IC announcements.

This will be the beginning of a new way of announcing plot events, via IC updates. Many events will occur that don’t directly involve any PCs, but will directly/indirectly affect or influence the lives of PCs. Such events will be read via a newsreader (think of HBO’s Rome). Characters can react to such events IC when they’re posted if they would like, or mention them in their own separate threads.

I plan to have all of these updates/changes finished by the end of this week. It will not really affect any of your usual RPing—so go on and write and thread as you always do! If there are any questions, send me a PM, or Anthony if I’m not available.
